GovernmentCIO is looking for Agile Coaches to join our Agile Transformation team at the Department of Veteran Affairs. This is a highly challenging role focused on business process re-engineering, gap analysis, process improvement, and most importantly, defining SOPs that work for our clients and their partners. The individual must have a proven track record of training and transforming teams and programs to fully implement Agile (Scrum/Kanban or SAFe).  The  individual must possess exceptional communication and meeting facilitation skills, in-person and virtual.


  • Assess existing VA product teams to determine their level of Agile maturity and use the data to tailor a training and coaching plan
  • Coach teams on Agile fundamentals and help them implement Agile ceremonies, identify the roles, and manage the necessary artifacts
  • Facilitate large group and team Planning, Refinement, Review, and Retrospective meetings and other ceremonies while building internal skills that allow the VA SM/RTE/Release Coordinator to take over facilitation;
  • Create and manage artifacts; and identify, implement, and track metrics.
  • Identify stakeholders and change agents, and mentor them in order to develop sustainable agile skills;
  • Communicate teams’ transformation progress via weekly updates to management highlighting successes, risks, areas of improvement, and suggested resolutions
  • Act as a thought leader in the Agile space and contribute to white- papers, magazine articles, proposal writing, and authoring any similar literature that further our mission
  • Create and deliver virtual presentations on a variety of agile topics at the VA’s Weekly Agile Meeting to 100+ VA employees looking to learn more about agile processes
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Skills and Experience:

  • At least 3  years of experience working on an agile team as either a coach, scrum master, product owner, developer, tester, etc. or some combination of these roles.
  • Minimum 3 years working in a pure Agile environment (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, DevOps), with at least 2 years of actively coaching and transitioning teams, programs, and portfolios
  • Experience providing presentations to virtual and in person teams
  • Understand the difference between coaching, mentoring and training, and when to use each.
  • Proven leadership experience in IT delivery, building and sustaining high performing teams
  • An effective communicator skilled in conflict resolution - exceptional soft skills are essential
  • Experience providing presentations to virtual and in person teams
  • The candidate must hold at least one Agile certificate. This includes PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), ICAgile Certified Professional/Expert, SAFe Agilist (SA), or SAFe Program Consultant (SPC5)
  • Experience working with at least one the following Agile tools: IBM Rational (RM, CM, QM), CA Rally, JIRA or TFS, ALM, or Invision.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience working for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is desired but not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree desired
  • Possibility for limited travel after COVID-19
