    GovernmentCIO is looking for an experienced Agile/SAFe Coach and SAFe Program Consultant to join our Agile Transformation team at the Department of Veteran Affairs. This is a highly challenging role focused on business process reengineering, gap analysis, process improvement, and most importantly, defining SOPs that work for our clients and their partners. The individual must have a proven track record of training and transforming teams and programs to fully implement Agile (Scrum or SAFe). The position alternates between virtual and on-site workdays, thus the individual must possess exceptional communication and meeting facilitation skills, in-person and virtual.

     

    The day to day role will be dynamic, addressing multiple customer priorities. The overall focus will be on leading transformation of software product delivery practices by coaching Program teams in Agile methods. This candidate may also work as a lead coach or in project management/deputy program management roles, so experience managing teams of professionals is a plus.

     

    The ideal candidate will have experience at the Department of Veterans Affairs as well as experience leading Agile Transformation at a large enterprise. Experience delivering Scrum Master and Leading SAFe courses is also desirable.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with GCIO team, Federal Client and partner contractors to develop plan to implement Agile practices at the Portfolio, Program and Team levels.
    • Assess Programs and Projects to determine their level of Agile maturity and use the data to tailor a training plan.
    • Provide mentoring and training for GCIO team members and Federal customers.
    • Oversee one or more teams of coaches to ensure they are effectively mentoring their assigned teams.
    • Interact directly with mid-and senior-level Federal executives to gain understanding of their needs and develop service delivery plans.
    • Coach Scrum and Agile Release Train teams on Agile fundamentals. Help them implement Agile ceremonies, identify the roles, manage the respective artifacts and realize the potential of Agile Delivery. Coach teams in practices that deliver value through increased speed, better quality, and greater team engagement.
    • Facilitate Sprint Planning, Backlog Grooming, Sprint Reviews, Sprint Retrospectives and other Scrum ceremonies; Create and manage artifacts; and identify, implement, and track metrics.
    • Identify stakeholders and change agents and get their buy-in for recommended changes.
    • Communicate projects’ transformation progress via weekly updates to management highlighting successes, risks, areas of improvement, and suggested resolutions
    • Act as a thought leader in the Agile space and contribute to whitepapers, magazine articles, proposal writing, and authoring any similar literature that further our mission
    • Prepare and deliver presentations and training materials for Federal, contractor, and company teams.

    Qualifications

    • At least 4 years of experience working in a software development shop as either a PM, BA, Developer, Tester, DBA, or System Administrator
    • Minimum 4 years working in a pure Agile environment (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, DevOps), with at least 2 years of actively coaching and transitioning teams, programs, and portfolios
    • The individual must hold at least one Agile certification. This includes PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), SAFe Agilist (SA), or SAFe Program Consultant.
    • Experience working with at least one the following Agile tools: IBM Rational (RM, CM, QM), ServiceNow Agile, CA Rally, JIRA or TFS, ALM, or VerionOne
    • Experience with providing presentations to virtual and in person teams with an emphasis on remotely-delivered presentations
    • Proven leadership experience in IT delivery, building and sustaining high performing teams
    • An effective communicator skilled in conflict resolution - exceptional soft skills are essential
    • Bachelor’s degree required

    Preferred:

     

    • Experience working for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
    • Experience in management consulting at a large firm
    • DevOps certified with at least 2 years of experience implementing the methodology
    • Master’s Degree (MIS or MBA)
