GovernmentCIO is seeking an Architect for the Enterprise Services contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) who will work collaboratively with stakeholders and Agile Scrum team members to serve as an infrastructure technical expert to liaison with other teams as appropriate in support of the VA.


The Solution Architect must have extensive experience in the coordination of program and project leaders to identify requirements for system architecture. The candidate should have extensive experience in taking program requirements and can create an architecture vision to support high volume and high availability network systems. The successful candidate will collaborate with the team to ensure a high standard of technical excellence is maintained across all project activities and make recommendations for the most effective application of technology to meet the customer’s needs.


The successful candidate will bring a strong technical background with demonstrated technical aptitude in order to quickly understand new programming languages and technical concepts to communicate effectively to non-technical people via discussions, brown bag sessions, white papers, and visual diagrams.


The Architect will work with Project Managers, DAS Leads and Team Members to engage with the customer and develop a high-level operational architecture and system architecture that meets their enterprise needs. The successful candidate will be responsible for dictating design choices to DAS and partner organization software developers, architects and engineers, including but not limited to: an understanding of common architecture and application design patterns, especially as they apply to middleware using various platforms, technologies, and programming languages including Python, Redis, Ruby, and Linux Shell scripts. Experience in establishing and enforcing VA VIP, industry standards, and best practices.


The successful candidate will be proactive and able to work in a fast-paced environment spread across diverse technical areas using Agile/Lean software development methodologies. 


This role requires someone with a passion for working in a customer support role, has attention to detail, able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while working with multiple project leads to understand and communicate program information.


Skills Requirements:

  • Advanced Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or equivalent
  • 15+ years of related experience with Node.js, and Red Hat Linux, Containers: Docker / OpenShift, Java Jetty/WebLogic, MongoDB, Redis, REST, SOAP, FHIR, HL7, Microservices Architecture, Middleware Development.
  • Ability to obtain a public trust
  • Ability to set, evaluate, implement and support best practices in system and data architecture and system design as well as other technology standards
  • Provide expertise to the customer in defining environment needs and fostering progress in establishing System Environments and oversee configurations to ensure they will meet the needs of the development team
  • Partner with business analysis and functional teams with technical oversight to ensure IT solutions meet end user needs as well as
  • Experience with supporting teams utilizing Agile development methodology
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of an integrated team
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with programmers and other IT staff and non-IT functional areas
  • Strong communication skills, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • Experience with enterprise Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) solutions

Desired Qualifications:

  • Have cloud-based computing experience at the Department of Veterans Affairs or in another scientific or regulatory environment
  • Master Data Management - DBA, SQL, MongoDB, Oracle DBA or similar database certification
  • API/ESB 
  • MCSA - Microsoft Certified Solution Developer, Clouderra CCDH, Oracle OCP/OCM/OCE
  • Data Analytics - Hadoop, CAP, SAP
